NeTEx (Network Exchange) is a reference format for exchanging theoretical public transport data, defined at European level.

NeTEx proposes common rules for disseminating and exchanging theoretical data between actors working with public transport data (local authorities, transport operators, application developers, etc.) and thus facilitates interoperability between the services developed.

The NeTEx exchange format can be used to:

  • feed multimodal information systems

  • disseminate data from planning systems

  • power operating support systems

  • describe the tariff offer of public transport network

NeTEx covers a wider functional scope than NEPTUNE and GTFS. In addition to defining common rules on passenger information, NeTEx is also interested in information to operate public transport.
